Magnitude 4.8 Earthquake Hits Puerto Rico

Earthquakes – Puerto Rico
– At 2:42 a.m. ET on June 28, a magnitude 4.8 earthquake
occurred near Ponce (pop 153k), Puerto Rico, at a depth of
7 miles
– 42 aftershocks ranging from 2.0 to 4.5 have occurred in the
same area, aftershocks continue
– Level IV on Modified Mercalli Intensity scale (MMI); 40k
exposed to light shaking
– Green PAGER alert was issued indicating a low likelihood
of casualties and damage
– No power outages or significant damage reported
– No tsunami warning issued

– NWC & Region II RWC is monitoring
