Memo 1159 - Hurricane Season Alert 2006
To: All Safeguard Inspectors and Contractors
From: Vendor Management

Hurricane season officially began June 1, 2006, and monitoring severe weather areas is imperative to providing our clients with information to best protect their properties. Safeguard relies on our vendors to supply us with severe weather alerts and information affecting your areas. When severe weather is affecting your area please notify your regional coordinator with daily updates, including descriptions of the level of damages by individual zip code, in each impacted area. Safeguard staff will also continue to work with our city contacts and monitor FEMA websites for the information.

Utilizing local news resources will assist in providing detailed, up to the minute information on conditions in affected areas. Damage levels must be assessed using the descriptions below:

  • Not Affected
  • Light - a few shingles missing, tree branches down, minor debris (12 cubic yards or less), minor damage to exterior shutters and siding, no obvious structural damage
  • Moderate - trees down, large sections of shingles and/or siding missing, windows blown out, extensive debris, some flooding or standing water in the basement only, no obvious damage to structural support members (rafters, joists, entire walls compromised)
  • Severe - sections of the roof missing, collapsed carports or decks, destroyed patios, structural damage (rafters, joists, entire walls compromised), still flooded, mold damage, property open to the elements
  • Total loss - no salvageable portions of the property remain, the cost to repair equals or exceeds the property value

These reports will allow our clients to assess their exposure in the affected areas and make business decisions regarding property inspections and repair efforts.

Please contact your regional coordinator with any questions.
