Memo 1147 - Code Enforcement Reporting
To: All Safeguard Contractors and Inspectors
From: Robert Klein

Safeguard requires all inspectors and contractors to report code violations and condemnation notices posted on a property they have inspected, secured or repaired so we can immediately remedy the issue for our clients.

Contractors and inspectors are required to submit photographs of the posted violations and notices. We rely on our inspectors and contractors to report any information, if available, regarding the citations or postings, including the city contact, phone number, date of the posting and date for action to be taken by the city. INSPI2 requests this information when inspection results are submitted.

It is strongly recommended that our contractors/inspectors know and understand the ordinances in the municipalities they service and report documented violations and existing situations at a property that violate city code. For example, Dutch Elm Disease was attacking Elm trees in Wisconsin and Minnesota recently, and any infested tree not removed from a property resulted in a code violation. Safeguard relies on its contractors and inspectors to provide the information our clients need to properly preserve and protect their assets.

As an internal quality control, Safeguard has staff who monitor local municipality web sites for lists of properties with posted violations or citations. However, because of delays in updating these web sites, we rely on our contractors/inspectors for notification and guidance that allow us to best achieve code compliance and reduce fines/liens issued on our clients' assets.

You are required to call from site to report posted citations that require immediate attention. The identification and notice of postings at a property enable us to alert our clients and take immediate action to protect their assets.

Your continued cooperation and support enable us to provide unsurpassed customer service to the clients we all serve. If you have questions regarding the requirements of this memo, please contact your Regional Coordinator.

Thank you.
