Memo 1128 Hurricane Katrina Message
To: All Inspectors and Contractors
From: Vendor Management Department

Everyone in the country is aware right now of the devastation that has resulted from Hurricane Katrinas assault on the Gulf Coast. We also know that many of you are experiencing immediate, direct, and personal consequences in the wake of this disaster. We feel its very important that we let you know how Safeguard is involved in responding to this crisis.

This event has savaged many communities along the gulf coast and in the surrounding areas. There has been a tremendous loss of life, and hundreds of thousands of survivors have been left homeless.

HUD and other government agencies are working on to relocate thousands of families to safe locations in surrounding states. As part of our efforts to give aid and assistance, we are transferring massive numbers of internal staff, inspectors, and contractors to these states. In addition, we are in the process of setting up command centers in those cities hardest hit by the disaster.

We deeply appreciate all of you who have called to ask what you can do.

We do have one very important request in this time of need. As mentioned above, we are relocating internal staff to address this emergency situation, and we ask all of our vendors to please step up to the plate and do everything possible get us timely information so we can deliver crucial updates to our clients. Every one of the servicers who depend on us are sensitive and sympathetic to this crisis, and they all want to be certain that they are aware of and responding to the needs of their customers, investors and the country.

If you are one of the companies working in the immediate areas affected by the disaster and inspecting, securing or repairing properties for occupancy, we urge you to augment your staff accordingly.

This is going to be a long-term project, and we are all in it together for the long haul. We will all be working on this effort long after its out of the media.

One more very important note: we are very aware of and sensitive to the needs of our vendors in this terribly difficult time, and we know that you are faced with painful and costly increases in your expenses. I have personally received and read emails from many of you expressing your concerns about the cost of fuel, and I assure you that we are working hard and diligently with our clients and the investors to address this significant issue. We hope to be able to tell you about any increase that the investors will allow in recognition of these new costs.

We know that you have to keep your companies running. Our clients have the same concerns. With cooperation and good faith, we can work together to endure this tragic event, and all come out on the other side of it.
